|Monster Energy drink orginal|
Monster Energy drink is a carbonated beverage manufactured by Monster Beverage Company, which is owned by Hansen Natural. Some of Monster Energy drink’s ingredients include riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, sodium, taurine, and Panax ginseng. It also contains a proprietary energy blend with L carnitine, caffeine, glucose, guarana, inositol, glucuronolactone, and maltodextrin for enhanced energy and stamina.
It is available in 16 oz., 24 oz., and 32 oz. sized aluminum cans. I usually buy 4-packs of the 16 oz. cans, because it is more cost effective than buying the product in individual cans. It may cost $2.60 for one 16 oz. can of Monster Energy at a convenience store, but it is cheaper to purchase the 4-pack at a Walmart or Target for about $8.00. Once in a while I buy the 4-pack on sale at Winn-Dixie for about $5.99. There are also 24-packs available online for even cheaper. There are over 20 flavors and varieties in the Monster Energy drink line, including Low-Carb, Java Monster, Khaos, Assault, M-80, Mixxd, etc. The brand has also expanded to offer energy shots.

I can remember the first time that I tried the original Monster Energy drink in 2004. I worked the graveyard shift fulltime and went to college fulltime. I was looking for something that would keep me alert during my work and study hours. I did not like the taste of some other energy drinks. I relied mainly on shots of espresso from Dunkin’ Donuts. However, espresso has a bitter taste, so that got old rather quickly.
After searching the internet and grocery stores for months, I stumbled upon this interesting looking carbonated beverage with a bold, gothic looking, green “M” on the front of the can. I gave Monster Energy drink a try. It has a delicious, citrus taste which knocked my socks off. The energy boost made me feel like a superhero. I have been using it ever since.
I tried other energy drinks, like Red Bull and Rockstar, but they did not work well for me. The slogan "Red Bull gives you wings" is Bullshit (Pun intended). I can literally drink a can of Red Bull and go right to sleep. Monster Energy is the only energy drink that keeps me alert, without a jittery, nervous feeling. When I drink it, I have mental alertness, and I focus better on my activities. Monster Energy drink tastes delicious and it has a fizz similar to soda. *I liked it so well, that I bought shares of stock in the company that manufactures it some years ago.
In my opinion, the brand is mainly targeted to young people and/or people whom are into skateboarding, motor sports, or extreme sports. However, it is a product that any healthy person seeking a nice energy boost can benefit from. Even though I am middle-aged, I feel young and cool, sporting this drink in my hand. Right now, I have about 3-4 Monsters in a week tops. I don't drink so much of it now, becuase I no longer work the graveyard shift and I am not in college.
Now for the cons of consuming Monster Energy drinks. Although there are low-Carb versions of this drink, the regular versions are high calorie and loaded with sugar. One 16 oz. can contains 200 calories and 54 g of sugar. This is not too good if you are trying to control your weight. Also, this product is not recommended for people with certain health conditions, like sensitivity to caffeine. Monster Energy drink is not recommended for pregnant women or children. This is not an exhaustive list of people who should avoid the product.
I am not a medical doctor, but I think that people who have heart disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure should definitely avoid this product. Consult a health care provider prior to using this product or contact the company if you have any concerns/ questions. Drink in moderation.
*I am not suggesting that anyone run out and buy stock in Hansen Naturals. It is incumbent on you to do your own research when deciding to purchase shares of stock. I am just mentioning that I bought stock in this company, to illustrate that their products made a positive impression on me. I no longer own shares of stock with Hansen Naturals.
