Special K Protein Shakes Strawberry |
Usually, I prepare my own protein shakes with whey protein powder. When I am in a rush or feeling hungry, a ready-to-drink protein shake comes in very handy. I like to try a variety of ready-to-drink shakes and Special K Protein shakes taste the best by far. Most of the time, I drink a shake as an after lunch snack. These shakes are not the same as eating a complete meal, but they do a good job of tiding me over between meals. After drinking one bottle of the Special K Protein shake, stomach grumbles are kept at bay and I don’t feel hungry for about 2 or 3 hours. Everyone’s metabolism works different though.
Special K Protein Shakes taste delicious and in my opinion they are better tasting than some other meal replacement or protein shakes like Slim-Fast, Boost, and Ensure. They are not too sweet and have a rich taste. They go down so smooth, without any aftertaste or particulate matter. Special K Protein shakes taste okay at room temperature, but are best served chilled. Special K protein shakes are available in three flavors: Strawberry, Milk Chocolate, and French Vanilla. I have tried all flavors and they are great.

This product contains milk. As a lactose intolerant person, I usually avoid most products that contain milk. For some reason, Special K protein shakes do not upset my stomach. So, I can enjoy them without worrying about getting an upset stomach later. If you are lactose intolerant don't overdo it though, or you'll quickly find yourself on the toilet. I limit myself to no more than one bottle a day.
I feel like Special K protein shakes are marketed more to women, because of the packaging design. The bottle has a distinctive "feminine" curvaceous shape, and it is easy to grasp. I noticed that some other protein shake manufacturers have adopted the same bottle design. Of course, anyone can use the product irrespective of how (and to whom) the company chooses to market it.
I really like the convenience of the shake. They are packaged in single-serve bottles and you can take them with you on the go in a lunch box. If you don’t want to drink the whole bottle in one sitting, no problem. The bottles have tight-fitting caps for easy storage after opening. Just make sure that you keep the shake bottle refrigerated, if you don’t plan to finish the shake the same day that you open it. The shake will go bad after several hours at room temperature.
I am not on a strict weight loss diet per se (although I should be), but I drink these shakes to help me get my daily recommended protein, vitamins, fiber and minerals. I alternate between eating Special K protein bars and drinking the protein shakes. I like that there aren’t as many calories and grams of fat in this product compared to similar products, like Ensure. There are 180 calories and 5 grams of fat per serving (10 fl. Oz. bottle). There is 29 grams of carbohydrate per serving, of which 18 grams is sugar. At the same time, Special K Protein shakes does not contain as much protein as Ensure or some other ready to drink protein shakes. There is only 10 grams of protein per serving. So, I don’t consider this product to be a true protein shake.
If you are a body builder, looking to build lean muscle, then this product might not be the best for your needs. Perhaps EAS Myoplex is a better product for those who want to build up their muscle mass, since their shakes contain over 40g of protein per serving. Whether Special K protein shakes are right for you, depends on the type of diet and nutrition program you choose to follow. The product is probably fine for those who aren’t overly concerned about managing protein and carbohydrate intake. If you are just looking for a low fat alternative to a heavy milkshake at McDonald’s or a healthier snack between meals, then Special K Protein Shakes may suit your needs. Overall, I think it is a decent product and a good value for the money.
