|Sta-Sof-Fro Hair and Scalp Spray|
A natural hair care product, good for normal healthy hair and dry, brittle hair
My hair has been in it’s natural, kinky, coarse state since the late 1990s. I gave up on relaxers (sodium hydroxide or lye products that straighten the hair) and chemical processing because of the frustration of seeing my hair suffer damage and breakage from the all the processing and styling. So when I decided to “go natural”, Sta-Sof-Fro Hair and Scalp Spray was a product that helped me to make a smoother transition. I have been using this product ever since (over 13 years and counting). It is another one of those throwback products that people with my hair type have got to love.
I learned about the product because I remember many of the ads, from when I was growing up. Also, my parents used to use this product on my brothers and themselves in the 70s. They had to make sure that their “fros” were tight. I guess you could say that the product is ingrained in my consciousness.
Most of the time, I purchase Sta-Sof-Fro either at a local beauty supply store or Walmart. It’s available at almost every major retail chain, though. I get it in the 8 fl oz. spray bottle for less than $3 and it lasts a very long time, provided that you don’t waste it. Just spray enough into your hair to get it damp and then massage. That’s all you need really. If you spray on too much of the stuff, it will definitely run, because it is in liquid form as opposed to an aerosol spray.
The product can be classified as a leave in conditioner or as the manufacturer refers to it, a “comb out conditioner”. The greatest benefits that I receive from this product are that it keeps my hair moisturized, soft, and easy to manage without an oily residue. In my experience, it also will help minimize split ends and breakage when used on a regular basis.
This product is very appropriate for braided hairstyles, natural hair, and curls. I think that it is even good for moisturizing relaxed hair, if you’re not planning on styling the relaxed hair with heating instruments (flat irons and curling irons, etc.) So if you want to give your relaxed hair a break and wear your relaxed hair in a ponytail, it is a great option. Sta-Sof-Fro doesn’t have a strong obnoxious, perfumed scent, either.
The way that I incorporate this product into my hair care regime is to wash and condition my hair. Then, apply an oil or pomade to my hair. Next, I braid or plait my hair. Afterwards, I spray my head with Sta-Sof-Fro. It really keeps my hair from getting too nappy and hard to manage during the weeks. It really helps to bring out the natural curls in my hair, making them look and feel softer. I spray it on my hair about 3 times a week and let it air dry.
Another thing that I love about Sta-Sof-Fro Hair and Scalp Spray is that it does not cause any irritation to my skin. I am a very careful about examining product labels and their ingredients. I tend to avoid daily use of product that contains mineral oil and petrolatum, since they can cause acne breakouts. This product doesn’t contain either of these chemicals.
Here are the ingredients in the products:
Aqua/Water, Glycerin, Propylene glycol, Oleth-20, Dicetyldimonium chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum/Fragrance, PEG-60 Lanolin, Methylparaben, linalool, Limonene, Citronellol, Coumarin, isobutylparaben, Propylparaben, Evernia Furfurcea/ tree moss extract, Geraniol, Benzyl Benzoate, Hydrolyzed wheat starch, F.I.L. This product gets two thumbs up from me and I highly recommend it.
