I have a really mixed opinion about this product. It is not a brand that I usually purchase. The main reason that I tried this product is because it was on sale at Target and I had some coupons for it. My preferred brand of sanitary pads is Always. I do like and regularly use Kotex Natural pantiliners, though.
As with most things in life, there are pros and cons to using this brand and variety of sanitary pads. What I like mainly about this product is the comfort factor and the way it looks. U by Kotex pads are very dainty and “cutesy”, for lack of a better term. I think that the manufacturer went through a lot of trouble to design a sanitary pad that would seem almost like an accessory. You can tell that extra care went into the patterns and the different colors selected for the pad wrappings, as well as the actual pad.
As far as the comfort goes, it hardly feels as if you are wearing a pad. This U by Kotex pad is very thin, so you don’t feel like your are wearing a soggy diaper. Also, nobody else will know that you are wearing one either. They fit very nicely in the panties and cover the entire crouch portion for a fair amount of protection. The outer lining of the pad is very soft, too.
I like the adhesive backing on the underside of this pad better than some pads made by other companies. Once you stick the pad into the underwear, you don’t have to worry about the pad slipping or sliding. They stick securely into the panties without twisting out of place or bunching up. I also like the way that the wings fasten to the panties.
Now for the cons of U by Kotex Clean Wear Heavy Flow pads. I don’t consider this pad to be the best for persons who experience heavy bleeding during their menstrual cycle. Even though this is a “heavy flow” pad, it is more like a “regular” pad for lighter flow. I have uterine fibroids which cause me to have a somewhat heavy menstrual period. Therefore, this particular pad would not last me more than thirty minutes during the first few days of my period. I use this pad in conjunction with a “super plus” or “super” tampon. It is pretty safe for me to use alone during the last few days of my period, when the flow of blood is really light. So, I think that this pad is better for people who don’t have very heavy flow during their menstrual period.
The other problem that I have with this product is that I think that the wings are too small. I almost always get a little leakage on the sides of my panties even if the pad is nowhere close to being saturated. Perhaps if the wings were longer, this would provide better protection against the side leaks. I never have problems with leakage at any other point, like the underside of the pad or back. The leaks usually occur towards the front and the sides.
Overall, U by Kotex Clean Wear Heavy Flow pads is a decent product. I think I will give their overnight pads a test.
